I want a Specialized Road Bike But I’m Not Andy Schleck   by Dave McIntosh

So you’re looking for a great new road bike but don’t know what to look for, but you do know you’re not Andy Schleck and don’t want to become a racer. Well let’s look at a Specialized road bike that I think might be just what you are looking for.

I’m talking about the Allez models from Specialized. There is the elite compact, the sport compact and the triple, models of Allez. They are in their lower price range but still built for reliability and comfort. These are great bikes and give you tremendous value for the price.

The frame is made out of their best quality aluminum tubing A1 which are smooth welded because they give thoughtfulness to the details and it gives it the appearance of a much more costly machine. Its carbon fiber forks give it accurate steering plus additional absorbency over those uneven sections of road surface that we always seem to find ourselves on.

The bulk of the components are Sora by Shimano including the chainset, shifters and brake levers, as well as the derailleur’s both front and rear. The brake calipers are also taken from the Sora groupset. The rims are by Mavic with 14g stainless steel spokes fastened to Shimano hubs. I think the Mavic rims are a bonus at this price of a bike. They finish the bike off with lightweight alloy handlebars and stem along with the seatpost and saddle. They even use a gel tape on the handlebars for added comfort.

The lightweight aluminum frame and carbon forks give the bike its speed. At the same time the high pressure 700×32 tires allow it to roll smoothly and to have just the right balance between control, traction and speed.

There are both men’s and women’s versions of each bike. The geometry of each bike is different because of the differences in men’s and women’s arm and leg length as well as hip angle. Women usually have longer legs and have shorter torsos than men. They also make sure the grips and seat are sized correctly for female riders and therefore are comfortable. Top bike companies like Specialized do make women specific road bikes.

The best thing to do is find a good bike dealer in your area. Many of them belong to a bicycle dealers association like the National Bicycle Dealers Association. They should have a sticker in their window and if they don’t, ask. Tell them what you are looking for. I’m sure they will be able to help you and give you some great advice. There are three things I would look for in a store. That they listen to you and treat you with respect and one that has an in store service area. A professional bicycle dealer will be able to fit a bike properly to you and you to the bike. They will also give you the advice and service you will need over time to keep your bike in tune and help you ride safely and comfortably.

A Specialized road bike is one of the best on the market and they are great for the casual riders all the way to the professionals. My latest road bike was a Specialized and I am not disappointed I made to plunge.
