The Lowdown On Shimano MT41 Cycling Shoes
The Shimano MT41 is from the Shimano cycling shoes selection and is a real all round cycling shoe, making the Shimano MT41 fantastic for touring, off road or commuting as its adequately wearable off the bike. The midsole is EVA with a dual compound rubber sole, which makes trekking agreeable, while also helping pedalling. Also you can put to use this shoe for indoor spin training.
The shoe has recessed cleats, SPD compatible as you might imagine and its no bother to take out the sole plate to anchor your cleats in. The tread is a rubber based trekking type to give competent grip off road or for regular walking.
Construction of the uppers uses mesh panels of nylon to help feet breathe, coupled with synthetic leather, with the laces area built-up for protection and strength.
Fastening is by coupled hook and loop strap in Velcro and full laces to give a snug fit thats also comfortable both on and off the bike.
As others have said you want to buy these one size bigger than you generally take. I got size 43, when I’m by and large a 42 and they fitted precisely. The fit itself is good enough to have on as normal shoes, nevertheless with a cleat fitted, on anything other than a flat stretch the cleat will grind a touch as you walk.
The velcro strap is very rugged and the laces pull up nice and tight, without too much excess shoelace after the bow is tied. Nevertheless, does it truthfully need velcro and laces? Plainly one or the other would be enough and be quicker to put on?
I use mine to cycle to work and go off-road too and at times wear them as shoes after cycling as well and they’re showing no signs of wear and tear, therefore they are unquestionably made from strong material.
They aren’t very waterproof, because the cleat bolts to the shoe. Shimano give you a sticky back plastic label to fit on the inside of the shoe where the cleat fits, to stop water getting through, but it isn’t very effective! Silicone sealant may well be the solution if it bothers you, or you can invest in some seal skin waterproof socks to keep your feet dry. Not many shoes will stay dry if you end up sticking your foot in a full puddle, so it’s a modest penalty to pay.
I truly like these shoes, the cleats are recessed which actually makes placing the pedal clip easier. The soles are very firm so they could be used on flat pedals. The Shimano MT41 is stiff enough to cycle in, but springy enough to walk about in comfortably, with ample grip to stop you slipping.
