What Ultegra double crank set is recommended to replace a Shimano 105 double crank set?
Wrecked my Trek bicycle and damaged theShimano 105 crank set. I am looking to upgrade the damaged crank set.
I would say Shimano double crank set Ultegra. If the whole thing is out of whack and you’re getting new shifters too then I would recommend going to Shimano Ultegra 10-speed instead of 9 speed.
Up until Dura-ace changed over from 7700 to 7800 (now it’s 7900 nowadays), dura-ace use to have a 9 speed cassette (now they are only 10 speed cassette), people that were cheap and smart actually picked the Ultegra 10 speed over Dura-ace 9 speed… and it’s only 1 speed, but I like 10 speed a lot more than 9, I notice the difference…
Now it’s ok if ya just stick with ultegra 9 double… if you’re not climbing the rocky mountains or any type of mountain every day then triple crankset is just about more weight and it’s more worth it to find a compact crank at that point. compact cranks scared me at first like clipless pedals but they are AMAZING.
NOTE: I would however recommend to constantly use 105 chains, I found those to be the most economically efficient and work just as well as any other chain. the higher priced chain you get that means they are lighter weight… they lighten the weight by reducing the material, thus the more expensive chains wear down way quicker than the cheaper chains like 105.
